Unfortunately, sometimes children can be taken by one parent without the others knowledge, and this happened in Greg’s case. Greg had been caring for his young daughter for several months while the mother, Selina was missing and had issues with substance abuse.
One afternoon Greg arrived at daycare to pick up his daughter, only to be told Selina had already picked her up and they didn’t know where she had taken her. Obviously this is every parent’s worst nightmare. When Greg walked into our office he was beside himself, but with our help we were able to apply for a Recovery Order the very next morning.
The Court ordered Centrelink to provide Selina’s address, and once we had it we were able to serve her with documents and bring an urgent case before the Court, which restored the little girl to Greg’s care.
